If you’ve bought a new computer recently, you might be getting used to Windows 8, the new operating system from Microsoft. And one question probably burning through you mind is “Where’s the ‘Start’ Button”?

The idea of Windows 8 is to make one operating system that works on both tablets (such as the Microsoft Surface) and conventional PCs. The Start Menu has been deemed unnecessary by Microsoft due to the Metro interface, which is the collection of tiles that you see when you first start the computer. In theory you can access the things you’d go to the Start menu for from the Metro interface, but personally I like having a Start Menu. I’m used to it. After all, it’s been there for a long time. In fact I can’t remember the last version of Windows not to have it.

So I went searching for a way to bring it back. At first I assumed there must be a setting to bring it back. But there isn’t. Fortunately, there is a utility you can install that gives you a Start Menu. And it’s free! Download it below:
